Shocktopus Games is a three-person startup based in the heart of the Netherlands, focused on creating satisfying and polished Virtual Reality games with in-depth game progression.
Just one year prior to the founding of Shocktopus Games, the current team got together and did a small game jam on what would later become Now There Be Goblins. Having worked on multiple VR experiences in the past, the team was disappointed with the huge amount of simulation and sandbox games on the market. With just two days, some old office chairs and a picnic table, the team worked on a Virtual Reality tower defender, combining satisfying physical combat with building defensive towers. This small prototype enabled the team to envision a game which uses the unique interactions of Virtual Reality but also has a real game progression.After that
With that goal in mind, the team started to work on a prototype called Now There Be Goblins. In February 2020 the game reached a playable state and was offically selected for the IMAGINE Film Festival and Dutch Game Gardens INDIGO. Where for the first time, the prototype would be openly playable on UTOMIK. After an overwelming amount of positive feedback the team decided to found Shocktopus Games and realise their vision for Now There Be Goblins. While in pre-alpha production, the team was then granted a fund from the Creative Industries Fund NL and participated in the Steam Game Festival February 2021. Shocktopus Games is currently working on Now There Be Goblins with a release later this year.
